General Programing/Operations – Sustainable Pledges to Support Staffing –  To support ongoing operations and programming under the direction of the Youth Leadership Council and support eh learn-on-the-job Youth 2 Work program. The KYI Youth Community Center, when fully functional, will serve as as hub for youth and young adults providing hands on resources or suggestions of other resources to support the growth of our teens and young adults and their successful entry into the workforce with a living wage job. KYI will host a centralized youth event calendar; outdoor activities, healthy cooking classes, life skills workshops, study buddies; youth to work job readiness; KYI Administrative support for social media, public relations and community service outreach.  Volunteers are encouraged to help with program development and mentoring as well as administrative tasks. Youth Community Center – Target: $20,000 – To complete the redevelopment of the old Water Warehouse at 632 Park Avenue into a vibrant center serving youth ages 14 to 24. The WORK Shoppe is now open in the front of the street level (750 Sq  Ft) to provide a PLACE for Ketchikan youth to gather and learn valuable life skills. Youth artists are encouraged to work with KYI to build an inventory and sell their affordable art and gifsts from the retail center positioned in the KYI WORK Shoppe. Teens will learn  relevant work skills by taking the responsibility to  run  the WORK Shoppe business under the mentorship of youtng adults and adults.  We expect to reach “Substantial Completion” by year  end 2016 with the support of a $98,300 “top off” grant from the Rasmuson  Foundation. Shane Howard White Skateboard Park “Raise the Roof” Campaign KICK OFF -Target: $50,000 – under development. To install a roof over the concrete skatepark. Engineering design  work is complete and the construction  costs are being calculated. Volunteers are encouraged to assist with creating and maintaining a safe place for our youth to skate and to watch. This is a TOBACCO FREE ZONE. (Click HERE to volunteer)


Hot Shots Paintball Field – Target: $5000 – To maintain  and upgrade equipment and support leadership training for the KYI Paintball Leadership Team to  run this non-profit business venture. Sales and  equipment rentals to groups and individuals and proceeds from fundraising events like the paintball booth at the Blueberry Festival  cover the ongoing expenses in order to maintain  and affordable cost for young players. There are now TWO fields for play, a “Speed-ball” course on Revilla Road across from the headquarters building and a “Woods-ball” course in  the woods adjacent to this site,  accessible by a trail through the woods. Volunteers are encouraged to assist with building stairs to the trail and improving the new woods-ball field as well as building additional barricades for the speed-ball course.
