Youth Community Center

  • What? A youth-directed and adult-mentored multi-use facility providing healthy activities and creating a capable workforce of teens and young adults, featuring:
Leadership and Employability Skills Development
Incubator for Youth Entrepreneurs
A Hub for Resources and Healthy Activities
  • Who? Teens and Young Adults involved in the Youth Leadership Council direct the programming and building usage under the mentorship of adults with specific skills and experience to offer as support.
  • Why?  To make a difference in the lives of our youth by providing a safe PLACE where they can gain the life and job skills they need to succeed.

Our Youth Community Center is under development with a target of 12/31/16 for substantial completion and occupancy of both levels, a total of 3660 sq ft.  We are completing the build-out under the following Phased Development Plan:
PHASE ONE:  “the WORK shoppe,” COMPLETED September 2016, operates from a 750 sq ft space at the front of the street level.  Phase One is staffed by our AmeriCorps VISTA member, Zach Fawbush, and supports a retail center selling affordable art and gifts that are crafted by youth on site or elsewhere as part of our Youth2Work program and a PLACE for youth and KYI adult mentors to engage in KYI activities.
PHASE TWO: “substantial completion” Supported by the CALL TO ACTION campaign for COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS (Click Here to access the Volunteer form).  When completed KYI meets the criteria of the building code providing full access to the 3660 sq ft “safe” building that is equipped with sprinklers.  This enables KYI to provide shared business services, leadership and skills training and support programs, performance opportunities, full-sized pool and ping pong table; Serve a s a hub for resources and a referral for community services…all youth-directed and adult-mentored.
PHASE THREE: “the amenities” ADDING THE FINISHING TOUCHES to add commercial kitchen, washer-dryer, shower and design features.
